The highest temperature in this Central Highlands city soars to 27oC andfalls to 6.5oC at the lowest level. In the history of Da Lat Vietnam, theweather has never changed suddenly like this. Mai Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of the Hydrometeorology Forecast Centre of LamDong Province, said that the temperature in Da Lat is gradually increasing withthe suddenly increase of the gap between the highest and lowest levels, from8-10oC on average in previous years to 12-15oC now. In the past several weeks, the highest temperature jumped to 27oC and thelowest was 6.5oC. Even in the most fierce period of El Nino in 1997, Da Lat’sweather was not in such a situation. According to Mr Viet, measurements showthat the maximum rainfall in Da Lat and Lam Dong in general this year would be100-120mm compared to 150-200mm in the previous years. The fast narrowing of the inner forest area in
Da Lat City, the high speed ofconstruction and El Nino are the reasons causing the above situation, reportedthe Lam Dong Hydrometeorology Forecast Centre. At the same time, localagronomists warn that negative weather changes may facilitate the development ofinsects and disease on crops and animals in this largest area for vegetable andflower planting of
Vietnam. Da Lat City in Lam Dong Province is a populartourist destination, which is highly appreciated for its temperate climate, beautiful sights such as waterfalls, lakes and its abundance of flowers andvegetables. |
