For a long time, a delightful temple with moderate scale has become one of the famous historical interest places and landscapes of locality. It's Nghe Temple the temple worshipping Le Chan - the feminine general who changed waste land into cultivated areas and formed
Hai Phong land.
Legend has it that she was wise at life and supernatural at dead. When she threw herself into the river, turning into the stone and floating on the King Thay river surface, from Dong Trieu area - her old homeland to Ben Da (now called Ben Binh), the stone was bobbing and circling. An Bien villagers knew that she had become a genie, together they brought rods and robes to pick it up and carry the sacred stone back to the village. Passing the place where it is now Nghe temple area, suddenly there was a storm and the robes broke. Then the place where the stone dropped was chosen to build the temple for worshipping her.
At first, it was only a small temple with thatched roof. In 1919, Nghe Temple was built spaciously as the existing figure.
The temple has two main halls - the front worshiping hall and the sanctuary. On the roof of the front worshiping hall, there is a notable Han letters: 'An Bien co mieu' (An Bien Ancient Shrine). Between the front worship hall and the sanctuary is the two storeys - Thien Huong hall with centrally curved knife point roof. The statue of Le Chan feminine general was placed in the sanctuary, two sides are alters for worshipping her parents.
Visiting Nghe Temple, visitors often pay attention to two unique historical things - they are Stone Gong and Stone Ornate Bed. The Stone Gong was made of a whole stone which was sculptured to its existing shape (1meter's high and 1.6meter's wide). In the stone-gong front side, there are two dragons franking a moon and surrounding flying clouds were curved convexly. In the back side, flying clouds and waves were curved, both sides had two convex round knobs for striking. The stone-gong sounds serene, vibrative, gentle, pervasive leading us to an illusory spirit and scared world. |
