Ngoc Son Temple is located on Ngoc
Island in
Hoan Kiem Lake. Ngoc Son Temple is a
cultural and religious relic, a place to
worship Saints Tran Hung Dao and Quan Vu
De and two martial generals classified
as "Saints", and is also a place to
witness naval combat training sessions
of the Dai army. Vietnamese. History and
legend are blended to create a
historical and cultural space around
Hoan Kiem Lake. Right from the Ly
Dynasty, the lake reflected the Bao
Thien Tower, a once famous architecture
of Thang Long. Centuries later, Ngoc Son
Temple - Hoan Kiem Lake witnessed the
country's glorious historical events,
especially the struggle for power in the
August Revolution in 1945 and the heroic
fight to protect the capital. capital in
the early days of the nationwide
resistance war.
Leading to the temple is a gate system
and a bridge called "The Huc" connecting
Ngoc Island with the East bank of Hoan
Kiem Lake. In the past, Ngoc Island was
the place where Lord Trinh Giang built
Khanh Thuy Palace during Vinh Huu's
reign (1735 - 1739) as a place to feast
and have fun on summer days. To beautify
the scene, the Lord built two mountain
mounds Dao Tai and Ngoc Boi on the east
bank.
When the Trinh family collapsed, Le
Chieu Thong was returned to power by
Nguyen Hue. In 1786, he took revenge on
the Trinh family by burning down the Chu
Chua Palace and Khanh Thuy palace. In
the early 19th century, a pagoda was
built on the foundation of the old
palace on Ngoc Island, so it was called
Ngoc Son Tu. In front of the pagoda
there is a quite high bell tower. In
1843, the Huong Thien Association [1]
managed to convert the Buddhist temple
into a temple to worship Tam Thanh and
Saint Tran Hung Dao. Then the bell tower
was demolished. In 1864, the patriotic
Confucianist Phuong Dinh Nguyen Van Sieu
took charge to repair the entire scene.
In the temple, he promoted the worship
of the god Wenchang, the star who
oversees the examination according to
Taoist beliefs. He built a stone
embankment at the foot of the island,
built Tran Ba communal house in front
of the temple and looked straight at
Turtle Island.
The current architecture of Ngoc Son
Temple basically retains the scale and
style from the time of Nguyen Van Sieu's
renovation. From the outside, the
architectural works include: Nghi Mon on
the outside, Pen Tower, Nghi Mon on the
inside, Dai Nghien, The Huc bridge, Dac
Nguyet gate, Tran Ba communal house,
Tien Te house, Middle hall, Hau palace,
Left and right vu, Hon Thu house, Hau
house (Turtle room).
The outer gate is built with bricks in
the form of pillars and mezzanine walls.
On both sides of the outside of the
ritual gate are embossed two large
Chinese characters painted in red, the
words Phuc and Loc, with the wish for
Phuc (many children and grandchildren)
and Loc (many wealth). These are two
great freedoms written by Nguyen Van
Sieu himself. Looking at these two great
words, we remember the words of the
ancients engraved on stone stele: "There
is nothing more important for a person
who does good than to restrain his own
desires, to preserve the righteousness
of nature. If you get something like
this, you won't ask for blessings or
fortune, but the blessings will still
come naturally."
Pen Tower: located right behind
the Imperial Gate, built on a 4m high,
12m diameter stone mountain. According
to the recorded inscription, this mound
is called Doc Ton Mountain to
commemorate the merits of the soldiers
who died during the reign of King Le -
Lord Trinh [3] . The tower is square,
the body is divided into five floors,
the top is shaped like a brush tip. The
north side of the three lower floors has
three Chinese characters "Ta Thanh
Thien" written on it, meaning "Writing
on the blue sky". Pen Tower is a symbol
of literary spirit, built on a mountain
to commemorate the battle of Lord Trinh
and his soldiers, praised by Nguyen Van
Sieu: The tower thanks to the mountain
gets taller, the mountain thanks to the
tower is passed down forever. At the
foot of Doc Ton mountain there is also
the Son Than temple. The temple is very
small, just like an altar but very
sacred, it is the worship custom of the
Vietnamese people, there are mountains,
there are temples to worship the
mountain god. |
