Most people
visit Nha Trang for its beach. However, we learned that for the finer beach experience and sojourn, one should stay in the resort town of
Mui Ne (the beach in nearby Phan Thiet is deemed excellent). The water rivals the popular resorts of Thailand’s Phuket or Bali’s Kuta Beach; the sand is quite clean and soft and welcomes everyone. If you’ve come to spend the day, you can rent lounge chairs and umbrellas from any of the resorts that border on the water’s edge. Otherwise, you will encounter the popular palapas that are always found in beach resorts. Another permanent fixture of the beach is the vendors that make their living selling their wares.
Though we have not yet graduated to scuba diving, this is the place to do it if you’re an enthusiast. As you approach the coastline, you will also find a host of "dive" companies that can provide services, including certification, for approximately $300. There are three right on Tran Phu you can look up, and they are
Octopus Diving at nos. 62 and 72, Blue Diving Club at no. 66, and Rainbow Divers at no. 55. Enjoy!
The other big business here comes by way of boat tours, and had we had more time, this would have been our option. I had the chance to read a typical day’s tour and was nearly foaming at the mouth: cruise the South China Sea, snorkel if you must, have a great seafood lunch, meet 30 to 40 other people on your journey, and visit Mun Island . Glass-bottomed boat tours are also offered.
Tran Phu looks like the strip that runs
along the beach in Fort Lauderdale,
except it’s a lot prettier and not as
noisy. Palm trees line the street, and
people are walking just about
everywhere. The mountains, which can be
seen from the shore, make a wonderful
frame for a sunset picture. Since the
coastline is over 7km long (6.3 miles),
there will be times when nature will be
one with you and you alone and times
when you will share the splendors of the
beach with others. It is hard to do
justice to the panoramic views without
showing at least 10 pictures, but for
lack of space, the ones at the bottom
will have to do. A wonderful breeze set
in by late afternoon, and we walked
toward the water and sat on a stone wall
to do our usual people studies. Families
came with young children, - some older
children had skates on. At the other end
of the beach was a manicured plaza,
close to the Nha Trang Lodge Hotel,
which would most likely be used for
outdoor concerts. We were so impressed
with the overall cleanliness of the
area, both on and off the beach. |
